Product Description

The first Norman king of England, born 1027/1028 in Normandy, cousin of Edward the Confessor, and known as William the Conqueror.

In 1066 he invaded at Pevensey, Sussex, and defeated and killed King Harold at Hastings. During his reign, William witnessed numerous reforms and the compilation of the Domesday Book in 1086.

This penny was struck in silver at the Lincoln mint by the moneyer Lelfnoth and is known as the PAXS type. The reverse inscription names the moneyer and the mint so that the issuer of coins deficient in weight or fineness cold be traced and punished.

This coin has been cast in lead-free pewter and antique finished.
