Product Description

Queen Victoria, born in 1819, succeeded her uncle King William IV, in 1837, her father Edward Duke of Kent, William's next brother, having died in 1820 when she was only 6 months old.

She married her cousin, Prince Labert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, who was given the title of Prince Consort in 1857 and died in 1861. The Queen died in 1901 and was succeeded by her eldest son Edward VII. Her reign was the longest of any British sovereign.

Several varieties of penny were minted in the course of Queen Victoria's long reign. They fall into 3 main groups - the "Young Head" coins first issued in 1839, the "Jubilee" series of 1887 to 1893, and the "Old Head" issued between 1893 and the end of her reign in 1901.

This coin has been cast in lead-free pewter and bronze plated. Click on Thumbnail for larger image
