Product Description
This collection features Pennies and Nickels from the end of the 19th and start of the 20th centuries. The first two coins were struck in the late 1800's Indian Head Penny and Liberty Head Nickel. Both coins are over 100 years old. This was an era before airplanes, and before cars and electric lights were common sights.
Also included in the collection are an Indian Head Penny and a Liberty Head Nickel from the early 1900's. These coins circulated at a time when innovations were changing America at a startling pace. Electric appliances started to show up in homes, cars replaced the horse and buggy, and even airplanes started to appear in the sky. Together, the coins symbolize the turn of the 20th century - one of history's most exciting times. All coins were struck by the U.S. Mint and actually circulated in the late 19th - early 20th centuries. The Indian Head Penny depicts Lady Liberty dressed as an Indian princess.
This was one of the first U.S. coins to feature a Native American. The Liberty Head Nickel was the last Nickel to show Liberty on the obverse. The reverse has a large 'V' the Roman number 5 to represent 5 Cents. Each coin is a classic in its own right, and together they make a stunning collection. Collection is presented with a Certificate of Authenticity.
