Product Description

The Lincoln Penny was first minted in 1909 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. It was the first circulating coin to feature a real person instead of the allegorical Lady Liberty.

In 1959, the Lincoln Memorial replaced the 'Wheat Ears' design that was on the reverse to commemorative the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's birth.

The Lincoln Memorial is a landmark in Washington D.C. The statue can be seen in the center of the Memorial on the coin. This was the first circulating coin to show the same person on both sides of the coin.

This collection features one 'Lincoln Memorial' coin from each of the first 10 years of issue, 1959 to 1968.
