Gaius Julius Caesar is one of the greatest military and political figures in Western history. He was born on July 13, 100 B. C. As a general Caesar expands the power of Rome.

His Gallic conquests include present day France, Luxembourg, Belgium, most of Switzerland, Northern Italy, and parts of the Netherlands and Germany. Caesar conducts the first invasions of Britain and Germany east of the Rhine River. With military power assured in 49 B.C. Caesar moves on Rome to gain political power. After defeating his opposition, Julius Caesar assumes absolute political power of Rome. While his social reforms are popular with the common people, Caesar faces senatorial opposition.  On March 15, 44 B.C. Caesar is assassinated by members of the Roman Senate.  Julius Caesar's military eminence and political strength made Rome prosper into one of the greatest civilizations in history. This lapel pin is a lead free pewter replica of a Roman silver denarius.
