Silver 1/12 Stater. Circa 550-500 BC! Used As Two Days Pay For A Greek Soldier!
Miletus was the intellectual and commercial center of the Greek world in the century before Athens rose to prominence.
These tiny Milesian silver pieces were issued about 500 B.C. and weigh roughly 1.12 g and are about 7 mm in diameter.
On the obverse they feature a lion, the Milesian city symbol and on the reverse an ornament variously described as a flower, sun, or star. Each silver Miletos comes in original Very Fine or better condition.
