Product Description

Scarce Ancient Silver Dating To 400-333 BC. VF-XF Condition!

These tiny 9mm (about 3/4 gram), crudely made silver coins are from ancient Phoenecia - Byblos, which is present day Sur, Lebanon. Struck from 400-333 BC, each shows a lion attacking a bull on the obverse, with a galley filled with mercenaries above a sea serpent on the reverse.

Byblos later became part of the Roman empire and was famous for its papyrus. It is believed the scriptures were written on papyrus from Byblos, hence the word Bible came to be.
