Each of the 10 official, legal tender U.S. Half Dollars in this unique collection features a classic full-color portrait of Marilyn Monroe, plus her authorized facsimile signature. Together, they represent the history and romance of Marilyn as she is remembered by millions of fans. Marilyn Monroe was born in 1926 (as Norma Jean Baker) and shot to fame in 1950 in the Bette Davis movie "All About Eve".  She became a star in 1953 in "Gentleman Prefer Blondes".  Other successful movies followed, including "How to Marry a Millionaire", "The Seven Year Itch", "Bus Stop", and "Some Like It Hot".

In addition to being a movie star who epitomized sex appeal, Marilyn Monroe was also a cultural icon who was always in the headlines. She married baseball star Joe DiMaggio and award-winning playwright Arthur Miller. She died in 1962 and instantly became a legend. This set was made by the Morgan Mint, who are no longer in business.
