The Deinonychus was an active carnivorous predator living during the early Cretaceous Period (115 million years ago)!
The Greek meaning "terrible claw", refers to the large curved talon that appears on the second toe of each hind foot of the Deinonychus. This dinosaur was 11 feet long, a skull length of 16 inches, hip height of 2 feet 10 inches, and weight of 160 pounds. Paleontologists suggests the Deinonychus may have had feathers and was a member of a group of non-avian dinosaurs. Deinonychus fossils have been found in Montana, Wyoming and Oklahoma.
Skeletons of the Deinonychus are on display at the Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University. The front of this card shows two representations of a Deinonychus.
